The Journey Begins…

There are many paths to success, sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination.  I have been playing basketball since the age of 11 years old and currently still playing at the age of 36 years old. That’s 25 years of teaching to get to the point I am today. At the start I was only picked because of my height not my ability to play basketball. I had to learn the game by watching and playing as much as I could. There would be days in the summer when I left my home around 11 am and did not return until 8 pm from playing pick-up basketball at the parks/ driveways. That’s a lot of time and fun being put into basketball with the hopes of playing professional some day.

When speaking to young athletes I always tell them they have to fall in love with basketball before they will understand what it means to work hard on it.  Through the game of basketball I have been able to go to college on a full athletic scholarship and graduate with a Bachelor of Arts: Communications and Media Studies. And through that journey I have been able to play professional basketball overseas for past 13 years.  Moral of my short story is its not how bad you are when you start its perseverance, believing, working, learning and passion that has allowed me to continue to play the game of basketball.  Now it is my role to pass on what I have gained through my journey in pursuit of playing as a student athlete and professional.
